Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama said on Wednesday night that his administration has not only preserved the much-talked-about free Senior High School (SHS) policy introduced by the previous administration but also strengthened it significantly.

Addressing journalists and the Ghanaian people in the first Presidential Media Encounter in his second term at the Jubilee House, President Mahama disclosed his government has made a huge budgetary allocation to the policy this year.

“Contrary to the widespread misinformation that was circulated before December 7, 2024, the Free SHS has not only been maintained. We’ve made the highest budget allocation in the history of the policy as of now,” he said.

Highlighting the government’s commitment, President Mahama revealed that a staggering GHS 3.5 billion has been dedicated to the Free SHS program this year, marking an unprecedented investment in Ghana’s education sector.

The president used the encounter to touch on other equally important sectors of the Ghanaian economy, including energy, health, illegal mining or ‘galamsey,’ poor remuneration for public sector workers, and the performance of the local currency, the cedi. End item
