Fuel prices to go up from Sept. 16 amidst depreciating cedi

By Francis Kobena Tandoh

Fuel prices are expected to go up at the pumps today, Tuesday, September 16, 2025, across the country, according to the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) statement and media reports on fuel increases.

According to COPEC, petrol prices are expected to rise by 3.98 percent from GH₵13.09 per liter to GH₵13.61, with diesel going up by 9.41 percent from GH₵13.32 per liter to GH₵14.08.

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is also expected to see an upward review of 7.65 percent to be sold at GH₵12.52 per kilogram.

According to COPEC, the reason behind the fuel increase is largely attributed to the Ghanaian cedi, which has weakened significantly against the U.S. dollar during the pricing window from about GH₵11.03 to GH₵12.07 per dollar.

COPEC said, “The exchange rate loss is putting pressure on fuel imports.”

Secondly, despite a drop in global crude oil prices by 0.52 percent, that drop, COPEC says, has been overshadowed by the exchange rate effects.

The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers appealed to oil marketing companies to absorb some portion of the increases by reducing their margins where possible so consumers are not overly burdened. End item
