The race for Africa’s remaining places at the 2026 FIFA World Cup reaches its crucial phase this week, with Ghana looking to seal qualification on Wednesday before Match Day 10 on Sunday.

In Group I, the Black Stars of Ghana are closing in on their fifth World Cup appearance after having participated in four editions.

The Black Stars top the league log in their group by three points and will qualify if they beat the Central African Republic (CAR) in Match Day 9 of the African qualifiers of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday in Morocco and Madagascar fails to win against Comoros.

Should the race go down to the wire, Ghana’s home clash with Comoros on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium in the national capital could decide their fate.

Ghana head coach Otto Addo has indicated that his team is heading into Wednesday’s clash against CAR with a positive feeling.

According to him, securing a win against Mali in the last outing has given his side a lot of confidence.

He wants the Black Stars to remain focused and give their best to earn another victory against the Central African Republic in the next match.

“Everything is in our hands, but I hope that we learned the lesson from the last away game against Chad. It is important that we stay focused and concentrated and not think we have already won because that is a danger. We were very happy with the result against Mali, and we are taking this positive feeling into the Central African Republic game,” said Addo.

The Black Stars will return to Ghana after the CAR clash for Match Day 10, the final game in the group qualifiers against Comoros.

Ghana first participated in the FIFA World Cup in 2006 in Germany before taking part in the 2010, 2014, and 2022 editions in South Africa, Brazil, and Qatar, respectively. End item
