Ghana govt congratulates UDS for winning the FISU University Football World Cup in China

The government of Ghana has extended a congratulatory message to the University for Development Studies (UDS) for winning the 2025 FISU World University Football Championship in China, according to a statement on Sunday.

Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Iddie Adams commended the tertiary institution for being the first African university to accomplish the feat.

“On behalf of the government of Ghana and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, I extend my warmest congratulations to the University for Development Studies for making history as the first Ghanaian and African institution to be in the FISU University Football World Cup,” read the statement.

The statement further noted that the feat achieved by the Ghanaian university demonstrates the transformative role of sports in higher education.

The UDS defeated defending champions, the Paulista University from Brazil, 2-1 in the finals of the 2025 World University Games in Dalian, China, on Sunday. End item
