The Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has called on Ghanaians to practice responsible water use as the nation joins the rest of the world to commemorate World Water Day, according to a statement on Sunday.
The appeal comes amid growing concerns over water sustainability, with the company highlighting challenges such as increasing demand, climate variability, and illegal connections that continue to strain water supply systems across the country.
GWL urged households and businesses to adopt water-saving habits, including promptly repairing leaks, avoiding unnecessary usage, and using water efficiently in daily activities. The company stressed that conserving water is essential to ensuring reliable supply for all, especially in rapidly growing urban areas.
It also encouraged the public to report burst pipes and unauthorized connections, noting that such practices undermine service delivery and lead to significant water losses.
Marking this year’s World Water Day, GWL reaffirmed its commitment to improving water production and distribution, while emphasizing that safeguarding water resources requires collective action from all citizens.
World Water Day, held annually on March 22, raises awareness of the 2.2 billion people living without access to safe water and advocates for sustainable freshwater management. The 2026 theme, “Water and Gender,” focuses on the slogan “Where Water Flows, Equality Grows,” emphasizing women’s leadership in water solutions and closing the rural water gap.
