Ghana has confirmed 21 new cases of Mpox, according to the situational report released by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) in an update of the cases on Thursday.

This brings the country’s total case count to 467 since the West African country recorded its first case in May this year with one death.

According to health authorities, all 16 regions (provinces) in the West African country have recorded cases of the disease, raising concerns about the surging numbers.

The government is in the process of securing vaccines for the treatment of affected persons; however, authorities are yet to say when they will be delivered.

Meanwhile, the health service is urging the public to stay alert, practice good hygiene, and seek medical care if they develop symptoms such as fever, headache, rash, swollen lymph nodes, or muscle pain.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mpox, previously known as monkeypox, is a viral illness caused by the monkeypox virus, a species of the genus Orthopoxvirus.

Symptoms typically include rash, fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes. Enditem
