Govt declares Friday, January 9, as Constitution Day holiday

The government has declared Friday, January 9, 2026, as a public holiday to mark Constitution Day, this is according to a statement from the Ministry of Interior on Friday.

According to the statement signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, observed that January 7, which is a Constitution Day, and falls on a Wednesday, the President has rescheduled it to Friday, January 9th.

“The general public is hereby informed that Wednesday, January 7, 2026, marks Constitution Day, which is a Statutory Public Holiday,” read the statement.

“However, in view of the fact that 7th January 2026 falls on a Wednesday, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, has, by Executive Instrument (E. I.) in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), as amended, declared Friday, January 9 2026, as a Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” added the statement.
