The government has imposed a curfew on the North East Regional town of Nalerigu and its environs, according to a statement from the Interior Ministry on Sunday.
The statement, signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, announced that the curfew, which starts on Sunday, July 27, will be between 2 pm and 6 am.
“The Minister for the Interior, on the advice of the North East Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument, has imposed curfew hours in the North East Region from 2:00 pm to 6:00 am, effective Sunday, July 27, 2025, until further notice,” read the statement.
The government urged the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, the youth, and people in the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace.
Meanwhile, the government has imposed a total ban on all persons in the Nalerigu township and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons, and persons found with any arms or ammunition will be prosecuted. Enditem
