The government has rescheduled the implementation of the GH₵1 fuel levy on a litre of petrol to Monday June 16 following intervention by the Chamber of Oil Companies (COMAC), according to the COMAC on Monday.

The decision follows an agreement made among the stakeholders, including the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition and the Ministry of Finance.

“The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) wishes to formally acknowledge and commend the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, the Ministry of Finance, the National Petroleum Authority and the Ghana Revenue Authority for the constructive engagements held, regarding the implementation date of the new Energy Sector Levies Act 2025 (Act 1141)” said Dr. Riverson Oppong, Coordinator for COMAC.

“Following our consultations and collaborative efforts, we are pleased to announce our alignment and satisfaction with the revised implementation date for the new Energy Sector Shortfall and Debt Repayment Levy (ESSDRL). The new effective date is now confirmed as Monday, 16th June 2025, replacing the initially communicated date of 9th June 2025”, it mentioned.

It continued that the decision reflects the value of dialogue, partnership, and engagement among stakeholders.

“We extend our gratitude to all relevant institutions for their commitment to ensuring a smooth and sustainable implementation of the levy”, it added.

COMAC had earlier expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of consultations by the government before the announcement of the levy.

The GRA had announced over the weekend that the new Energy Sector Levies Act 2025 (Act 1141) was scheduled to take effect on Monday, June 9. Enditem
