Two classic goals from Hubert Gyau and one each from Seth Kwadwo and Peter Aminu Acquah secured all three points for Kumasi Asante Kotoko against Karela United in match day 8 of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
After being kicked out of the CAF Confederation Cup by Wydad Club of Morocco last week, the Porcupine Warriors were on an image redemption mission and commenced the game determined to carry the day.
Kotoko began the game by piling pressure on the visitors, and their efforts paid off when Hubert Gyau connected from a Saaka Dauda cross to score the first goal for the home team in the 6th minute.
Karela came back strongly a few minutes after conceding the goal and was rewarded with a penalty when their striker was fouled by the Kotoko goalkeeper in the box. Bless Ege expertly converted the penalty to make the scoreline 1-1 in the 16th minute.
Kotoko lifted their game and scored the second goal through Gyau, who delivered a thunderbolt of a shot, which went straight into the top right corner of Karela’s goal after connecting from a pass.
The home team kept their foot on the pedal and registered their third goal through Seth Kwadwo in the 34th minute to keep the scoreline at 3-1 till the end of the first half.
Back from recess, Kotoko scored their fourth goal in the 60th minute through Peter Aminu Acquah, who had worked hard during the match.
Karela did not give up the fight easily, as they worked hard to score their second goal to keep the scoreline at 4-4 till the end of the match.
With the victory, Kotoko thus maintains their unbeaten run in the GPL, while Karela has lost their second match this season. Enditem
