GPL Week 12: Kotoko snatches late equalizer to draw 2-2 with Medeama

By Francis Kobena Tandoh

Kumasi Asante Kotoko fought back late into the game to earn a 2-2 draw against Medeama in match day 12 of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.

Medeama struck early, taking the lead inside five minutes through Derrick Fordjour, who volleyed home confidently after Kotoko failed to deal with a loose ball in the area.

The visitors doubled their lead in the 18th minute when Yussif Mubarik converted a penalty, leaving the hosts stunned in their own backyard.

Kotoko struggled to settle in the first half but returned after the break with renewed energy and determination to fight back.

The pressure eventually paid off in the 69th minute when Peter Amidu Acquah reacted sharply inside the box to power the ball into the net and give his side belief.

The Porcupine Warriors pressed relentlessly in search of a leveller, and their persistence paid off deep into stoppage time.

Captain Samba O’Neil rose above everyone to head home a dramatic equaliser in the 95th minute, sending the home crowd into wild celebration.

For Kotoko, the point does not fully erase the disappointment from their midweek defeat, and they are now without a win in three league matches.

Kotoko will travel to face Hohoe United in their next outing, while Medeama take on Berekum Chelsea as both sides aim to regain winning form. Enditem
