The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has announced the postponement of the implementation of the Energy Sector Levies (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1141) or the fuel levy, according to a statement on Saturday.
According to the GRA, the announcement follows a directive from the Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson after consultation with various stakeholders.
The statement signed by Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, Commissioner General for the GRA however failed to indicate when exactly the levy will be implemented.
“This directive is issued to postpone the implementation date of Tariff Interpretation Order (TIO) No. 2025/004 relating to the Energy Sector Levies (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1141),” read the statement.
“Subsequently, the increase in the Energy Sector Shortfall and Debt Repayment Levy (ESSDRL) for selected petroleum products, which would have to take effect from the 16th of June 2025 has been postponed,” it added.
The GRA further indicated a new date will be communicated in due course.
The Ghanaian Parliament passed the Energy Sector Levies (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1141) on June 4 this year and the GRA announced to commence implementation on June 9 but had to reschedule it to June 16 after some major stakeholders raised issues with the short period of implementation. Enditem
