Guinea-Bissau aims to export 200,000 tons of cashew nuts by the end of 2025, a ranking foreign trade official has said.

Lassana Fati, director-general of foreign trade, told a press conference Thursday in Bissau, the capital, that “40,000 tons have already been exported, while more than 160,000 tons have been declared.”

“Everything suggests that we will surpass last year’s figures,” Fati said, expressing optimism that farmers could earn more from the cash crop and the country’s economy gets a significant boost.

Cashew nuts, the primary source of income for more than 90 percent of rural households in Guinea-Bissau, play a crucial role in state revenue.  Enditem
