Unidentified gunmen have shot dead Abdul-Malik Azenbe, the Kusasi chief at Asawase in the Ashanti Region, according to local-based Zuria FM late Tuesday.
Azenbe, who also serves as the Kaadi Divisional Area Chief in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region, was shot and killed by unknown gunmen in front of his residence at Asawase F-Line, near the community center.
The incident transpired on Tuesday, 22nd July 2025, at approximately 8:40pm.
Eyewitnesses report that two individuals on a motorbike approached the residence, and one of them, armed with an AK-47 rifle, opened fire on the chief multiple times before they sped off.
According to sources, the Kusasi chief was initially rushed to the Manhyia District Hospital but was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital due to the severity of his injuries but was later pronounced dead.
Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe and his team visited the bereaved family, offering condolences and assuring them of a thorough investigation. He pledged that the perpetrators will be identified and brought to justice. Enditem
