The Ministry of Health (MoH) has secured financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance to pay allowances and salaries to more than 14,000 health workers across Ghana, according to a statement.

The statement, signed by Tony Goodman, Spokesperson to the MoH, the approval covers a total of 14,279 rotation nurses and midwives undergoing their mandatory service.

It also includes some 637 medical and dental house officers who were inducted into service in November 2025 after passing their professional examinations.

The nurses fall under several cadres including Registered General Nurses, Registered Midwives, Registered Mental Health Nurses, Registered Community Health Nurses, and Registered Public Health Nurses.

The financial clearance will clear salary and allowance backlogs owed to the affected health workers, introduces a new system of monthly payment of allowances during mandatory service, and replaces the previous arrangement where payments were accumulated and settled at the end of the service period.

The Ministry said the decision followed ongoing engagements with the Finance Ministry to ensure newly trained health professionals receive the financial support needed while completing their mandatory training and service. Enditem
