Interior Minister outlines measures to avert stampede in internal security services recruitment on Nov. 17

Minister for Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, announced on Friday that the government has put in place several measures to ensure a seamless recruitment exercise into the internal security services next week.

The directive, the minister noted, is to avert overcrowding and a possible stampede that characterized the military body selection exercise that led to the death of six potential recruits.

Addressing a press conference in the national capital, Accra, Hon. Muntaka announced that the government is deploying a robust centralized e-recruitment portal to ensure harmonization and standardization of the conduct of the recruitment across various agencies under the Interior Ministry.

His comments come on the back of a recruitment exercise by the Ghana Armed Forces, which led to the death of 6 persons and caused injury to several others on Wednesday.

“The online application process will be seamless and online, utilizing a robust and secure platform designed to handle a large volume of applicants efficiently. To avoid overcrowding and unforeseen situations, the screening exercise will be done in turns,” said Mohammed-Mubarak.

The Interior Minister further assured the public that his outfit is committed to transparency and accountability throughout the recruitment process.

He expressed his condolences to the six females who perished in the stampede and wished the injured currently receiving treatment a speedy recovery.

The Ministry of Interior is scheduled to conduct recruitment of personnel into the internal security services comprising the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Immigration Service, and the Ghana Prison Service.

Six people died, while several others got injured in a stampede prior to a military recruitment exercise in the Ghanaian capital of Accra on Wednesday, the Ghana Armed Forces said.

In a statement, the armed forces said the six were among those who had reported for a body selection exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium. Enditem
