The Interior Minister, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, launched an online digital services portal on Wednesday to improve service delivery across the interior sector.

Addressing a press conference in the national capital, Accra, the minister said that the initiative directly supports the government’s vision of a modern, secure, and inclusive digital economy.

According to him, digitalization has become the fulcrum of development; the launch demonstrates the government’s unwavering commitment to leveraging technology to improve service delivery, enhance operational efficiency, and strengthen citizen engagement across the Interior sector.

“Digitalization has become a central pillar of national development, guided by key priorities such as expanding e-governance, strengthening cybersecurity, building a digitally skilled workforce, and creating a seamless interface between citizens and the State,” said Hon. Muntaka.

He emphasized that the transformation of the Ministry of the Interior fully aligns with the government’s agenda, positioning the Interior sector as an active driver of the digital state that the government seeks to build.

The Interior Ministry has, over the years, provided a wide range of critical services that underpin national security, public safety, migration management, business operations, and the protection of citizens’ rights.

However, these services have traditionally relied on manual, paper-based processes, which slowed delivery, created administrative bottlenecks, and placed undue burdens on applicants.

The newly-launched online digital services portal, scheduled to be fully operational from Monday, 15th December, 2025 expected to directly address these challenges.

Among the services that the digital services portal is expected to render are citizenship and migration services comprising immigrant quota permits, renunciation of Ghanaian citizenship, dual nationality/citizenship applications, registration as a citizen of Ghana, naturalization as a citizen of Ghana, and registration of a minor as a citizen of Ghana.

It also includes security and regulatory services comprising the licensing of private security organizations, permission to import or export explosives, permits to import or export arms and ammunition, permits to import and license firearms (pistols), the granting of auctioneer’s licenses, and permits for key cutting.

The online portal will also provide specialized services such as the exportation of dead bodies. This service, which has also been fully digitalized, is expected to streamline documentation, ensure proper verification, and eliminate delays, especially in situations that are sensitive and emotionally challenging for families.

The Interior Minister outlined some benefits of the new platform as including convenience and accessibility, transparency and accountability, enhanced data security, improved revenue assurance, and stronger national security. Enditem
