Kumasi Asante Kotoko has confirmed Abdul Karim Zito as the head coach for the next two years, according to the club on its X, formerly Twitter, on Sunday.

Zito was initially appointed on an interim basis beginning April 22, 2025, replacing Prosper Narteh Ogum. Alongside this, he retains the role of Technical Director as part of a broader restructuring.

“We are pleased to confirm the appointment of Abdul Karim Zito Kabutey as our head coach for the next two years,” read the post.

Background & Transition:

Zito, a former Porcupine Warriors player and coach, stepped in after Kotoko endured a winless run under Ogum and fell to 4th place, six points behind the top of the table.

The club announced the reshuffle as part of a renewed structural vision aiming for long-term technical stability. As part of the revised staffing, Prince Yaw Owusu joined as Assistant Coach, and Malik Jabir stepped into a Technical Advisor role.

Performance Under Interim Tenure:

In his first month at the helm, Zito oversaw three wins and a draw in four games: beating Aduana Stars (1‑0), Dreams FC (4‑1), Berekum Chelsea (1‑0 in the FA Cup semi-final), and drawing Hearts of Oak. That semi-final win sent Kotoko to their first FA Cup final in eight years.

On the league front, Kotoko moved within three points of the league leaders with just three matches to play in the 2024–25 season

Permanent Appointment

Due to his strong impact—stabilizing the team, keeping them unbeaten in his stint, and guiding them to the FA Cup final—the club’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) opted to remove the interim tag.

As of late May 2025, Zito was officially retained as Asante Kotoko’s permanent head coach, with expectations high that he will lead the club into continental qualification next season. Enditem
