Kwabena Agyepong files nomination for NPP presidential race

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwabena Agyei Agyepong filed his nomination on Tuesday to contest the party’s upcoming presidential primary scheduled for January 2026.

Accompanied by scores of party supporters and well-wishers, the former presidential spokesperson submitted his forms to officers at the party office in the national capital.

He becomes the first of the prospective aspirants who have made their intentions clear of picking the sole ticket to lead the party in the 2028 general election.

His submission comes at a time the opposition party has expanded its delegates’ voter register to include more persons who have worked for the party in various areas.

Among the individuals who have declared their intentions are former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, former Food and Agriculture Minister and MP for Abetifi Constituency Dr. Bryan Acheampong, and former Education Minister Yaw Osei Adutwum.

The opposition party opened the window for flagbearer filings on July 29, 2025, which is scheduled to close on August 28, 2025.

The NPP will hold presidential primaries on Saturday, January 31, 2026, to elect the party’s next presidential candidate ahead of the 2028 general election. Enditem
