The president, John Dramani Mahama, has pardoned Sammy Gyamfi, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD), the presidency announced Wednesday.
According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, the GOLDBOD CEO was pardoned by the presidency after a high-level meeting following a viral video on social media in which Sammy Gyamfi was captured giving an undisclosed amount of money in U.S. dollars to fetish-priestess-turned evangelist, Patricia Asiedua, also known as Nana Agradaa.
“Sammy Gyamfi and Agradaa dollar saga; the presidency does not believe further action is necessary beyond the apology caution given to Sammy Gyamfi,” confirmed the Spokesperson to the President.
The incident drew many talking points in which several persons, largely from the opposition, called for the dismissal of the CEO.
However, Sammy Gyamfi explained later that he did that out of who he is and not with any malice, and rendered a public apology.
He was summoned on Monday before the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, in which the young man was reported to have been cautioned and advised not to repeat the act.
A private citizen, Eric Dumenu Akatsi on Tuesday petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate the source of wealth of Sammy Gyamfi. Enditem
