Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama today, on Thursday, swore into office seven new Supreme Court justices at the Jubilee House, in the national capital.
Among the seven newly confirmed Justices of the country’s apex court, whose appointments followed rigorous parliamentary vetting and approval processes last month, are:
- Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei
- Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh
- Justice Senyo Dzamefe
- Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo
- Justice Philip Bright Mensah
- Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo
- Justice Hafisata Amaleboba
Their appointments are in line with Article 144 of the 1992 Constitution, which outlines the process for judicial appointments, including advice from the Judicial Council and consultation with the Council of State before parliamentary approval.
According to Article 128 (1) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, “the Supreme Court shall consist of the Chief Justice and not less than nine other Justices of the Supreme Court.”
With the seven new additions to the apex court, the Supreme Court’s total number now stands at 20, including he suspended Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo. Enditem
