Mali celebrated on Monday the 65th anniversary of its independence with a seven-hour civil and military parade, preceded in the morning by a wreath-laying ceremony at the Independence Monument by President Assimi Goita.
Speaking to the press after the parade, Goita congratulated the defense and security forces for their “sacrifice” in the fight against “forces of evil,” assuring that measures are being taken to secure the release of both military and civilian hostages.
He said strengthening security and expanding energy access remain priorities for his administration, while praising the resilience of the Malian people and urging them to “remain united in order to leave a worthy legacy to future generations.”
On the eve of the anniversary, Goita delivered a patriotic address to the nation, calling on Malians to “stay united” and “resist disinformation campaigns orchestrated by armed terrorist groups.” Enditem
