Former assistant coach of the Black Stars, Maxwell Kondau, has been appointed as the substantive coach for Ghana’s U-20 male football national team, the Black Satellites, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed on Thursday.

Konadu, a former striker with the country’s top side, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having managed several top clubs in the Ghana Premier League.

Domestically, he has managed clubs including Asante Kotoko, Eleven Wonders, Legon Cities, and Nsoatreman FC. He led Kotoko to win the Premier League title in 2012 and the President’s Cup in 2019. He also masterminded Nsoatreman FC’s historic triumph in the 2023/24 MTN FA Cup.

On the continental stage, Konadu has led Ghana’s Black Galaxies to glory in the West African Football Union (WAFU) Championships in 2013 and 2017.

Konadu served as assistant coach for the Black Stars under Kwesi Appiah, current manager for the Sudanese national team, as well as former Chelsea manager Avram Grant, when he was managing Ghana’s senior male football national team.

The FA also named Johnson Smith and Winfred Dormon as his assistant coaches. Enditem
