Minority petitions CHRAJ, OSP, IGP to probe Sammy Gyamfi dollar gift

By Francis Kobena Tandoh

The Minority Caucus in Parliament on Thursday formally petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to investigate the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD), over a dollar gift he presented to fetish-priest-turned-evangelist Patricia Oduro Koranteng, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.

The petition called for a thorough examination into the circumstances surrounding the alleged gift, which the Minority contends may constitute a breach of public trust and potential abuse of public office.

According to the Minority, the alleged transaction raises serious ethical and legal concerns, particularly given Sammy Gyamfi’s dual role as the Communications Officer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and his recent appointment as acting Managing Director of the GOLDBOD.

The Minority Caucus argues that any financial dealings between a public official and a controversial figure like Agradaa, who has faced multiple legal challenges in the past, warrant immediate scrutiny to uphold the integrity of public office.

Meanwhile, Gyamfi has emphasised that he has not engaged in any financial transactions with Agradaa and welcomes any investigation that would clear his name.

The CHRAJ, OSP, and IGP have acknowledged receipt of the petition and indicated that preliminary assessments are underway.

The outcome of the investigations could have significant implications for public trust in political institutions and the enforcement of ethical standards among public officials.

A viral video that emerged on social media last week captured Sammy Gyamfi, the GOLDBOD CEO, giving an undisclosed amount of money in U.S. dollars to Nana Agradaa.

The issue generated so much public discussion and condemnation from a cross-section of the people. Sammy Gyamfi came out and rendered a public apology for his conduct.

He was subsequently summoned to the Jubilee House before the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, in which he was cautioned to be of good behaviour.

Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, confirmed President John Dramani Mahama had pardoned Sammy Gyamfi over the incident. Enditem
