Telecommunications giant, MTN, has said Mobile Money (MoMo), operated by its brand, remains safe and secure, according to the company on Sunday.
The comments by the mobile telecommunications operator come in the wake of rumors making the rounds that some mobile money customers have had their funds emptied from their wallets.
MTN observed that such rumors were without any basis and urged customers to disregard such claims.
“Y’ello Valued Customer, MTN MoMo remains safe and secure. Disregard any claims about system compromise. No customer wallet has been affected. Your funds are safe,” said MTN.
The company urged its millions of customers to avoid sharing their personal identity number (PIN) or one-time passwords (OTPs) with people to prevent being scammed.
“Avoid sharing your PIN or OTPs, do not click on any suspicious links or tolerate any unsolicited calls,” it advised.
The activities of Mobile Money fraud and scams are said to be increasing at an alarming rate, a development that many have called for operators and the security agencies to collaborate on fighting the menace. Enditem
