Nations FC holds Asante Kotoko in premier league match day 5

Nations FC held Kumasi Asante Kotoko to a goalless draw in a local derby in match day 5 of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) on Saturday at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Abrankese.

The two sides created some decent chances but failed to convert, leaving fans frustrated after a tense 90 minutes played under tricky conditions.

Heavy rains earlier in the day threatened to force a postponement, but the downpour eased just before kickoff. The wet pitch made ball control difficult, contributing to a scrappy contest where defenses stood firm and clear chances were limited.

The result extends Kotoko’s winless streak against Nations FC to five matches since the latter joined the Ghana Premier League two seasons ago.

Statistically, the game was finely balanced. Both teams shared 50% possession, with nine total shots each. Nations FC registered six shots on target compared to Kotoko’s three, while Kotoko earned four corner kicks to Nations’ six. In discipline, Kotoko picked up four yellow cards, with Nations receiving two.

Kotoko will now turn their attention to the CAF Confederation Cup competition, where they host Wydad Athletic from Morocco in the first leg of their playoff tie next Sunday.

Nations FC will next take on Dreams FC, seeking to end their three-game winless run. Enditem
