Vetting of the presidential aspirants of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is scheduled to begin today, Monday, September 15, 2025, according to the time schedule of the party.
The vetting process will run through till September 22, 2025, when it will come to an end.
The NPP opened vetting between July 29 and August 28 this year, and at the end of the window, five prospective aspirants declared their intention to run for the party’s presidential primary scheduled for next year.
Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former General Secretary Ing. Kwabeba Agyei Agyepong, and former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Assin Central Constituency, Kennedy Agyapong, filed to contest the primary.
The rest are former Education Minister Yaw Osei Adutwum and Member of Parliament for the Abetifi Constituency, Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong, who filed their nominations to contest the presidential primary.
After the vetting exercise, the Vetting Committee will submit its recommendations to the National Council and the National Executive Committee on September 29, 2025.
The party has provided an opportunity for aspirants to petition the committee should they have any issues between September 30 and October 3, 2025.
The party will then announce and publish the names of qualified aspirants on October 8, 2025, and will follow it up with balloting of positions for the aspirants on October 10, 2025.
The NPP will hold a presidential primary on January 31, 2026, to elect a flagbearer to lead the party in the 2028 general election. End item
