The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has granted amnesty to all suspended members and those who are currently facing disciplinary issues, the party leadership confirmed in a statement over the weekend.

Acting Party Chairman Mr. Danquah Smith Buttey signed the statement, emphasizing the decision’s promotion of party unity and reconciliation.

“I write to inform you that the National Council at its Emergency Meeting held on Friday, July 25, 2025, resolved in the interest of party unity and reconciliation to grant a general amnesty to all party members who have been suspended or whose disciplinary cases are currently pending the appropriate adjudicating bodies,” read the statement.

“We hereby serve notice that this directive lifts all such suspensions and waives any ongoing proceedings against affected members,” added the statement.

In view of the pardon, the main opposition party urged members who have forfeited their membership to submit a formal application to the national secretariat for reinstatement.

However, the party stressed that reinstated members were ineligible to contest any internal party election until a mandatory two-year period had elapsed.

The party also directed their leadership at all levels to refrain from any arbitrary suspension of members and urged that all disciplinary matters be handled solely in accordance with established procedures, principles, and due process provisions expressly enshrined in the NPP constitution.

Prior to the 2024 general election, the then governing NPP suspended some members in some constituencies across the country for various breaches.

Among the constituencies includes Yendi (184 members), Tatale-Sanguli (56 members), and Nanton (34 members).

The rest were Pusiga & Tempane (16 members), Suhum (2 members), and Agona West (280 members). Enditem
