NPP MPs petition IGP over delay in declaring Ablekuma North parliamentary results

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament (MPs) marched to the Police Headquarters on Wednesday to petition the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) over the delay in the declaration of the Ablekuma North Constituency parliamentary election results by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Minority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam/Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh Dompreh told journalists at the Police Headquarters that the refusal of authorities to declare the results for the Ablekuma North Constituency constitute a violation of the rights of the people to have a representation in Parliament.

“The absence of a declared MP for Ablekuma North constitutes a serious violation of the constitutional right to representation guaranteed under the 1992 constitution,” said Annoh Dompreh.

The Minority Caucus called on the police, through the Inspector-General Christian Tetteh Yohuno to provide adequate security to enable the EC to declare the results for the people to have their elected MP represent them in the legislative body.

The EC has not been able to declare the Ablekuma North parliamentary election results over security concerns.

Thugs disrupted the process each time the EC attempted to finalize the process to declare the results despite the presence of the police. Enditem
