New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Members of Parliament (MPs) besieged the premises of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Thursday afternoon to demand the release of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako.

The Minority, led by their leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, were joined by hundreds of NPP supporters in solidarity with the action by the parliamentarians.

Afenyo-Markin told the media the NPP Regional Chairman does not have the 50m Ghana cedis landed property to be able to meet the bail condition and that EOCO should vary the bail condition.

“We are ready to sign the sureties for Chairman Wontumi and will not provide the 50m Ghana cedis landed property. Is this where they are taking our democracy to? asked the Minority Leader.

He called on EOCO to respect the rights of Chairman Wontumi by varying the bail conditions and appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to call his people to order.

“We are calling on EOCO to respect the law by varying the bail terms. I want to tell the hawks within the NDC that they are destroying the legacy of President Mahama.

I am using this opportunity to appeal to President Mahama to call those hawks in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to order. He should give them a new code of conduct. What is happening to Wontumi can happen to me tomorrow. We are not just going to walk away; we will be here. Afenyo-Markin further stated. Enditem
