The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has conducted balloting for positions for the five flagbearer aspirants ahead of the party’s presidential primary next year, a statement from the party confirmed on Friday.
The balloting, which took place at the party’s headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra on Friday, saw former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong draw the number one spot, placing him at the top of the ballot.
Former Minister for Agriculture Dr. Bryan Acheampong picked the second slot, while former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia selected the third position.
Former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum and former General Secretary of the party, Kwabena Agyepong, drew the fourth and fifth positions on the ballot paper, respectively.
The statement signed by William Yamoah, Secretary, Presidential Elections Committee, described the exercise as successful.
“The Presidential Elections Committee of the New Patriotic Party, in collaboration with officials of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, has successfully conducted the balloting exercise for the party’s presidential candidates ahead of the January 31, 2026, presidential primary. The order in which the candidates will appear on the ballot is as follows:
- Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong
- Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong
- H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
- Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum
- Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong,” read the statement.
The Committee extended its profound appreciation to all the presidential candidates, their representatives, and officials of the Electoral Commission for their cooperation.
It further reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to transparency, fairness, and the highest democratic standards in the conduct of the presidential primary. End item
