The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) will hold a National Thanksgiving Service after its presidential primary last month, according to a statement on Monday.
The statement, signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, said the rationale behind the service is to express their gratitude to God for a successful internal election.
“Following the successful conduct of the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primary held on January 31, 2026, the party will hold a National Thanksgiving Service to express its profound gratitude to the Almighty God for a peaceful and historic exercise,” read the statement.
According to the statement, the Thanksgiving Service will begin with an Islamic Thanksgiving Prayer Service on February 13, 2026, at the National Mosque, Kanda, at 12.30 p.m., while an Interdenominational Christian Thanksgiving Service will be held on February 22 at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, at 11.00 a.m.
The General Secretary further announced that the party’s flagbearer and 2028 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, will grace the occasion, which will also bring together Chrisitian and Muslim clergy, party leaders, current and former Members of Parliament, former ministers, former Chief Executive Officers/Managing Directors, Metropolitan, Municipal District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), and other government appointees.
The NPP held its presidential primary on Jan. 31 to elect Dr. Bawumia as its candidate for the next presidential election. The election has been hailed largely as peaceful and successful in recent times. Enditem
