The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has arrested Rev. Dr. Amishaddai Owusu-Amoah, former Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), and two others over the controversial Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) contract, according to our sources on Wednesday.
Isaac Crentsil, former Commissioner of Customs and now General Manager at SML and Christian Tetteh Sottie, former Technical Advisor and now Managing Director (MD)/ Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SML were picked up by the OSP for quetioning and subsequently detained by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).
The arrests are linked to ongoing investigations into suspected corruption and corruption-related offences in respect of contracts between the GRA and SML for revenue assurance services.
The investigations by State Security agencies seek to verify whether SML’s claims that its services have been saving the nation significant revenues.
According to our sources, Rev. Dr. Owusu-Amoah, Crentsil, and Sottie were detained last night after failing to meet bail conditions.
The security agencies have also placed the following persons, including Evans Adusei, CEO of SML, Philip Mensah, a former Deputy Commissioner of Legal for the GRA, and now Legal consultant to SML, under arrest.
The rest are Joseph Kuruk, Faustina Adjorkor, both staff of the Public Procurement Authority, and Kofi Nti, former Commissioner-General of the GRA.
The SML contract was exposed by the Fourth Estate, which investigated the contract and alleged serious financial irregularities as well as breaches of the Public Procurement Act. Enditem
