Police intercepts truck with over 3,000 slabs of cannabis

The Police in Tema have intercepted a truck loaded with over 3,000 slabs of narcotic drugs, according to a statement on Wednesday.

The statement, signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs, said the truck was loaded with fertilizer sacks containing 3,009 slabs of plant material suspected to be cannabis.

Upon sighting the police, the driver, according to the statement, abandoned the vehicle and fled.

“The Tema Regional Police Command wishes to inform the general public that on 15th February 2026 at about 0010 hours, an intelligence-led operation by officers of the Regional Patrols Unit led to the interception of a Sinotruck Tipper Truck, with registration number GN 993-14, at Sege Akpla Manya in the Greater Accra Region,” read the statement.

“The vehicle was loaded with fertilizer sacks, containing a total of slabs of plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs (cannabis),” it added.

Meanwhile, the truck and its contents, according to the police, have since been impounded at the Tema Regional Headquarters for further investigations, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the driver and verify the ownership of the vehicle. Enditem
