Police, NIB operatives’ storm Wontumi’s residence with search warrant

A joint team of security operatives from the police and National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) on Friday stormed the residence of Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, to execute a search warrant

According to the search warrant dated May 21st, 2025, the security operatives were authorised to conduct a search of the premises of Chairman Wontumi in Kumasi.

The warrant, however, did not close the specific reasons behind the search of the NPP Regional Chairman who has been critical of the John Mahama administration.

Checks conducted by the Ghana Eye Report indicate that the security operatives were unable to gain entry into the residence of Mr. Boasiako.

Several senior NPP officials in the region who heard of the action rushed to the scene of the incident apparently to lend support to their Chairman.

Meanwhile, the whereabouts of Chairman Wontumi remain unknown. While some say he went into his premises, others could not ascertain that assertion.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) invited Mr. Antwi Boasiako to assist them in their investigations this week but the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman wrote back telling them he was not in a position to honour the invitation due to ill health.

He, however informed the police he will make it on Monday, May 26 at the CID headquarters in Accra.

Many are yet to come to terms with the rationale behind Friday’s raid of his premises. Enditem
