The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has been cautioned over three allegations, the police said on Monday in a statement.
According to the statement signed by Superintendent of Police Joseph Benefo Darkwah, Head of Public Affairs unit at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Chairman Wontumi was cautioned on undertaking mining operations without a license, pollution of water bodies, and entering a forest reserve without authorization.
“Following an invitation by the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, reported at the CID headquarters today, Monday, May 26, 2025, at midday to assist with the investigation,” said the police.
Chairman Wontumi was reported to have cooperated well during the investigation. After giving his statement to the Police, he was granted bail.
He will report to the Police on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
A joint Police and National Security operatives attempted to effect the arrest of the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman at his residence in Kumasi but failed to do so.
However, in an earlier communication with the Police, Antwi-Boasiako had indicated to honour a Police invitation sent to him last week on Monday. Enditem
