A private citizen, Eric Dumenu Akatsi, on Tuesday petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate the source of wealth of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi.
The petition, signed by Akatsi, follows a viral video in which the Gold Board CEO is captured on camera splashing an undisclosed amount of money in U.S. dollars on fetish-priestess turned Evangelist, Patricia Asiedu, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.
According to the petitioner, Sammy Gyamfi is alleged to have two separate accounts with the Consolidated Bank Ghana, which has over one hundred million Ghana cedis.
He further alleged that the said accounts did not have such a colossal amount of money before Sammy Gyamfi was appointed Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board.
“I write in my capacity as a citizen of the Republic of Ghana with a civic duty provided for under Article 41(1) of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana. As a public interest advocate, it has come to my attention that the said Sammy Gyamfi has two private accounts with Consolidated Bank Ghana; one is a dollar account and the other being a cedi account,” read the petition.
The petitioner further observed that he and his team started work on Sammy Gyamfi’s account on Monday afternoon and came to the conclusion, hence the decision to petition CHRAJ to establish the source of his wealth, since he is a public officer.
“We did some work and have been able to establish that Sammy Gyamfi, who is a public officer, has two bank accounts with Consolidated Bank Ghana with huge money in them. What is revealing is that the accounts did not have such an amount before his appointment into the public office, and there we want CHRAJ to investigate the matter,” he told Ghana Eye Report.
Since the purported video came up, Sammy Gyamfi has rendered an unqualified apology for the act. He was also summoned to the Jubilee House on Monday, where he met the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah.
The Minority Caucus in Parliament has also called on President John Dramani Mahama to relieve Sammy Gyamfi from his position. Enditem
