Russia sees 3rd straight year of decline in cosmetics stores: report

The number of cosmetics shops in Russia has fallen for the third consecutive year, local media reported on Sunday.

In the first ten months of this year, 2,422 new cosmetics stores opened while 2,966 were shut down, analysts from research firm Kontur were quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.

In 2024, 3,118 stores opened and 3,513 closed, while in 2023, there were 3,719 openings and 3,400 closures, according to the report.

A shift in consumer behavior toward online shopping, growing market concentration, and rising logistics costs are contributing to the decline of cosmetics shops in the country, said the report.

Regional data also underscore the trend. In 2025, 137 cosmetics businesses were registered in Moscow, while 267 were closed, compared with 55 openings and 72 closures in St. Petersburg.  Enditem
