Speaker Bagbin, seven others appointed to mediate in Russia-Ukraine war

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has been appointed along with seven others to mediate in the Russia-Ukraine war, according to a statement late Thursday.

The statement, signed by David Sebastian Damoah, director for media relations for the parliamentary service, observed that Bagbin was appointed as a member of the inter-parliamentary union’s (IPU) task force to help resolve the Ukraine war.

“The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has been appointed a member of the inter-parliamentary union’s (IPU) taskforce on the peaceful resolution of the war in Ukraine,” read the statement.

It added, “The IPU president, who appointed Speaker Bagbin, cited his integrity, impartiality, and ability to build trust with all parties. Rt. Hon. Bagbin joins seven other distinguished parliamentarians on the IPU taskforce membership of which is drawn from all six IPU geopolitical groups.”

The statement further expressed confidence that the leadership and experience of the Ghanaian Speaker will enhance the task force’s work and impact in its mission to support diplomatic efforts to seek a peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine. Enditem
