The Eastern Regional Police Commander has issued a strong warning to “macho men” and other potential troublemakers to stay away from the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Joseph Owusu-Bempah stressed that the policing of the event will not tolerate violence, intimidation or interference.
The Police Commander warned “macho men” — often understood as groups of strongmen or vigilantes sometimes used to intimidate — not to come near polling stations or try to cause disruption during the internal NPP flagbearer election.
He gave the warning during a show of force exercise carried out by the Police in the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua, confirmed that the Ghana Police Service is fully prepared to maintain law and order on election day.
In all, a total of 1,434 officers are expected to be deployed across the Eastern Region, with police presence at all voting centres to safeguard delegates and ensure peaceful conduct.
The Police stressed that the primary is a democratic exercise, not a contest of physical strength or intimidation, and that anyone attempting to disrupt the process will be arrested.
The warning comes amid broader security preparations for the NPP presidential primary scheduled for Saturday. Enditem
