The Police on Friday fired warning shots to control rioting students and others at the Tema Senior High Secondary School (TEMASCO) during an inter-schools zonal sports competition among nine second-cycle institutions, according to eyewitness accounts.
According to our sources, some students started throwing stones at their opponents during the finals of the girls’ football match between hosts Tema Senior High School and Nungua Senior High School.

Even though the exact cause of the stone throwing could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report, the unruly behavior of the students compelled officials to call off the match to save innocent ones.
Despite halting the game, the rioting continued; hence, personnel of the Ghana Police Service from the Tema Region were called in to control the disturbances.

The police, according to eyewitness accounts, had a hectic time controlling the rioting students, as they had to fire some warning shots, making students and others around run for their lives.
Even though there has been no report of any student casualty thus far, there was some destruction of the signage of the entrance to Tema Secondary School, as well as the destruction of the glass doors of the school bus of Ashaiman Senior High School.

The eyewitness further indicated that some of the heads of the various institutions who were around were surprised at the unruly behavior of the students and subsequently convened a meeting among themselves to find out the exact cause. Enditem
