The police in Tema have intercepted over 1,600 parcels of suspected narcotic drugs, according to a statement on Tuesday.

The statement signed by ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for the Regional Police Headquarters, said the operation followed intelligence received on January 10th, 2026, that suspected narcotic substances were being transported from the Volta Region to the Tema area, in which the police mounted surveillance.

According to the police, a surveillance was mounted on January 11, leading to the interception of two vehicles – a white Toyota Highlander (GS 2013-13) and a black Mitsubishi Pajero (GC400-22), and a search led to the discovery of several compressed, yellow-wrapped parcels suspected to be narcotic drugs.

“The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted a total of 1,613 parcels of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs in a well-coordinated intelligence operation along the Akosombo-Tema Road. This major breakthrough forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt drug trafficking activities in the region,” read the statement.

The statement further noted that the drivers of the vehicles, Isaac Odoi, 33, and Kwame Mani, 39, have also been arrested, assisting the police in investigations.

The police affirmed its commitment to intensifying operations against drug trafficking and other crimes and urged the public to continue sharing credible information to assist efforts at making our communities safe. Enditem
