Thousands of mourners from all walks of life thronged the Manhyia Palace, in Kumasi, capital of the Ashanti Region, to bid farewell to the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
The final funeral rites, also known as ‘Doteyie,’ for the late Asantehemaa, enter day two on Tuesday with several others expected to file past her body to show their last respect.
The funeral, which started on Monday and will run through till Thursday, will attract both locals and foreigners who will throng to the citadel of culture to mourn with the Ashanti King, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
According to communication from the Manhyia Palace, the late Queen Mother will be laid in state from Monday to Wednesday between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily for members of the public to file past the body to pay respects.
Among the groups or personalities allowed to pay their last respects to the late Asantehemaa are churches & clergy, political parties, educational institutions, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), telecom & corporate, recognized associations, and the general public.
On Tuesday, September 16, members of the Judiciary & Ghana Bar Association; security agencies; the Ghana Armed Forces; the Police; the Fire Service; the Prisons Service; Immigration; Customs; State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs); public officials; financial institutions; and the general public will be the next to file past the body.
Ministers of State, people from the diplomatic corps, parliamentarians, metropolitan, municipal, and district chief executives (MMDCEs), non-Asante chiefs, mining companies, and members of the general public will have their turn on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, to pay their last respects to the departed queen mother.
Meanwhile, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will sit in state from 12 noon to 5 p.m. between Monday and Wednesday to receive condolences.
However, on Thursday, 18 September 2025, which is the final day of the funeral, the presidency, former presidents/vice presidents, the diplomatic corps, and the general public will file past the body between 5 a.m. and 11 a.m., after which a burial service will be held at 3 p.m.
Ahead of the final funeral for the Asantehemaa, all funerals, social gatherings, and outdoor events have been suspended from 1 to 18 September 2025 in the Ashanti Kingdom in respect of the royal funeral rites.
Also, there is closure of businesses, schools, banks, markets, and shops for the final funeral rites period.
Nana Konadu Yiadom III, the 14th Asantehemaa of the Ashanti Kingdom, died on August 7, 2025, as was announced by the Manhyia Palace.
She was the elder sister of the current Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and succeeded her mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, in 2017. End item
