Uganda names squad for Rugby Africa Men’s 7s tournament

Uganda on Tuesday named the final team for the Rugby Africa Men’s 7s tournament slated from June 21 to 22 in Mauritius.

Head coach Tolbert Onyango unveiled the 12-man squad that will be captained by Alex Aturinda.

“We are very excited that the team has prepared well, and we must be at our best since we need to try and defend the title,” said Onyango.

The tournament to be played at the Labourdonnais Sports Club in Mapou will attract 12 teams. Besides the continental trophy, teams will also be vying for a spot in Division 3 of the newly introduced World Rugby 7s Series.

Uganda Rugby Cranes are placed in Group A alongside Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana and arch-rivals Kenya. “We cannot underrate any team in our group because every team will come out to try and beat the defending champions. But we have a game plan for every match,” added Onyango.

Other teams in the competition are South Africa, Burkina Faso, Zambia, Nigeria, Madagascar, Zimbabwe, Tunisia, and Mauritius.

   Following is the Ugandan squad:

Alex Aturinda (Captain), Allan Olango, Mubarak Wandera, Mark Osuna, Arnold Ocen, Roy Kizito, Karim Arinaitwe, Malcolm Okello, Aaron Tukei, Denis Etwau, Jones Kamiza, Nobert Okeny.  Enditem
