Uganda women’s team qualifies for FIBA U23 3×3 World Cup in China

Uganda women’s basketball team has qualified for the FIBA U23 3×3 World Cup to take place in Xiongan, China.

   Nasser Sserunjogi, president of the Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) told Xinhua in an interview on Wednesday that the women’s team qualified during the qualifiers held in Benin.

   “Thank you for the hard work by beating the teams in the continental Championships and qualifying for the FIBA U23 3×3 World Cup again,” said Sserunjogi.

   He made it clear that while Uganda’s men’s team failed to qualify, the women’s team was a class apart against Kenya, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Algeria and hosts Benin.

   “We are very happy that once again we have managed to qualify for the World Cup to take place in China. We are looking forward to tussling it out in China against the top teams from around the World,” Shillah Lamunu, one of the key players on Uganda’s women’s team said.

   Dr. Bernard Ogwel of the National Council of Sports (NCS) praised the Women’s team for carrying Uganda’s flag high and qualifying once against for the FIBA U23 3×3 World Cup. “We thank the women’s team for playing well and qualifying. We shall support them as they prepare for the World Cup,” added Ogwel.

   The 2025 FIBA 3×3 World Cup attracting over 20 teams will take place in China’s Xiongan from September 17 to 21.  Enditem
