The Ukrainian parliament will vote on ratifying a natural resources agreement with the United States next week, parliament members said on Friday.
In a post on Telegram, lawmaker Yaroslav Zheleznyak said a vote on the agreement is planned for May 8. Separately, another parliament member, Oleksii Honcharenko, also confirmed that an extraordinary parliamentary session will be held on May 8 to discuss the deal.
The agreement on natural resources, which establishes a joint investment fund for Ukraine’s reconstruction, was signed in Washington on Wednesday by Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
Svyrydenko said the fund will be co-managed and co-financed by both countries, and Ukraine would retain ownership and full control over its mineral and energy resources.
From the Ukrainian side, the fund will be financed by profits from new royalties on Ukraine’s mineral resources, gas and oil, Svyrydenko said.
For its part, the United States will provide financial resources or military aid, including air defense systems, as its contributions to the fund, she added. Enditem
