United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Gueteres has visited an injured Ghanaian peacekeeper in hospital during his recent trip to Lebanon, expressing solidarity with UN troops serving in conflict zones.

The injured soldier, Lance Corporal Albert Abrefa Busia of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), was wounded during a missile attack on a United Nations peacekeeping base in southern Lebanon earlier in March 2026. The base is part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon.

During his visit, the UN Secretary-General met the soldier in hospital and commended the bravery and sacrifice of peacekeepers serving under the UN flag.

He also stressed that attacks on UN personnel and facilities are unacceptable and must stop, calling for greater protection for peacekeeping forces.

The Ghanaian peacekeeper had sustained serious injuries in the strike but has successfully undergone surgery and is recovering, according to UN officials.

The attack reportedly injured three Ghanaian peacekeepers amid heavy gunfire in the town of Al-Qawzah in southwestern Lebanon, prompting condemnation from the UN and calls for accountability.

Meanwhile, the West African country, Ghana, has also lodged a formal protest with the United Nations, describing the incident as a serious violation of international law and demanding a thorough investigation. Enditem
