Veep Opoku-Agyemang expected in Ghana before end of next week – Mahama

Ghanaian Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang is expected back home before the end of next week, President John Dramani Mahama announced on Friday

According to him, the Vice President, who is currently in the United Kingdom receiving medical care following a brief illness, is recovering.

Speaking during a durbar at the Old Ghanata Astroturf in Dodowa in the Greater Accra region as part of his ‘Thank You Tour,’ President Mahama shared an update on her condition.

“I bring you greetings from H.E. the Vice President, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang. I’m happy to state that I spoke to her yesterday morning, and she will be back in the country before the end of the week,” said the President.

“By God’s grace, she’s fully recovered, and she’s going to come back to her duties,” added Mr. Mahama.

The 73-year-old first female Vice President of the West African country fell ill on Friday, March 28, 2025, and received initial care at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).

However, his medical team advised that the Vice President be flown outside for further medical care.

Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, in a statement, assured the public of the government’s support and extended well wishes to the Vice President for a speedy recovery. Enditem
