The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released provisional results for the 2025 West African Senior High School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates, according to a statement late Saturday.
The statement, signed by John Kapi, Head of Public Affairs for the National Office, stated that the results have been hosted online for candidates who wish to access their results on the Council’s website, www.waecgh.org.
It announced that the Council will make login details available to heads of schools, enabling them to access the results of their candidates.
WAEC announced that the subject results of 6,295 candidates were cancelled for sending foreign material, including prepared notes, textbooks, and printed material, to the examination halls, while the entire results of 653 candidates were also cancelled for possessing mobile phones in the examination halls.
Also, the Council is withholding the results of some 908 candidates and the entire results of 158 candidates for various suspected offences.
The examination body further indicated that some subject results of candidates from 185 schools have been withheld for alleged collusion, while a total of 35 persons, 19 of whom are teachers, were found to have engaged in acts that compromised the integrity of the examination.
It announced that 19 of the teachers have so far been arraigned before the court and have been convicted to fines or terms of imprisonment, while the remaining 16 are yet to be presented before the courts by the police.
A total of 461,736 candidates, made up of 207,415 males and 254,321 females from 1,021 schools, registered for the 2025 WASSCE. The figure is a 0.24 percent increase over the 2024 entry figure of 460,611.
Also, a total of 5,821 candidates, representing 1.26 percent, were absent from the examination.
According to a breakdown of the core subjects as released by WAEC, a total of 289,673, or 69 percent, obtained Grades A1-C6 in English Language, with 209,068, or 48.73 percent, obtaining Grades A1-C6 in Mathematics.
A total of 220,806, or 57.74 percent, and 248,538, or 55.82 percent, obtained grades A1-C6 in integrated science and social studies, respectively.
