‘Wontumi has not done anything wrong’ – NPP Regional Chairman tells Mahama

By Francis Kobena Tandoh

Ashanti Regional Chairman for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, said on Thursday he has not done anything wrong to warrant persecution from the John Mahama-led government.

According to him, he is a law-abiding citizen who has worked hard over the years to establish numerous businesses, and attempts to pursue him will amount to nothing.

He urged President Mahama to focus on governing the country to deliver on the mandate given to him by the people of Ghana.

“Wontumi has not done anything wrong in this country. I want to appeal to President Mahama to concentrate on governing the country to solve the problems confronting the people,” he told local media.

Antwi Boasiako disclosed that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) is aware he is going to be the next chairman of the NPP, hence marshalling all governmental powers to cow him into abandoning that idea.

“The NDC is afraid of me; they know Wontumi is winning the NPP national chairmanship race, hence doing everything possible to destroy my political career,” he added.

The maverick politician observed that he was not surprised at what the NDC government was doing now, as they did the same to him in 2014 and 2015 when John Mahama was president of the country.

“The NDC under Mahama seized my excavators and pick-up vehicles over 1,000 in 2014 in an attempt to bring me down, but were unsuccessful. I am not perturbed at what they are doing now because it is nothing new,” Wontumi further stated.

He emphasized that he is the only one within the NPP who can match the governing party, boot-for-boot, in their modus operandi ahead of the 2028 general election.

Chairman Wontumi urged his party members to be united more than ever to wrestle political power from the governing party during the next general election. Enditem
